The second wave of COVID-19 continues to be virulent as the rise in infection is being noticed among children as well. In 2020 when the first wave of COVID-19 struck the world, it was said the virus will attack elderly people. This year, in 2021 the whole characteristics of the virus have changed. Covid-19 second wave is manifesting in other age groups as well.
Many children are complaining the symptoms such as fever, cough, fatigue, sore throat, loss of taste and smell, Diarrhoea, body rashes, among other flu symptoms, while a few other children also have breathlessness and shortness of breath. Some of the children have been admitted to hospitals for treatment.
According to the Uttarakhand Health Department, only 2,131 children contracted the infection in the last year, while 264 children tested positive from April 1 to April 15. Total 1,053 cases reported from April 16-April 30, and 1,618 from May 1-May 14.
While in Karnataka, the media reports said that the children aged between 0-9 years found COVID-19 positive in the past two months is 143 per cent and between the age group of 10-19 years it is 160 per cent of the total cases registered till March 18, 2021.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday called for the collection of data on the transmission of COVID-19 among youth and children in each district of 10 states
Also, the Delhi government has formed a special task force to protect children in the national capital. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that if the third wave of the COVID-19 emerges, his government is prepared in advance to fight it.
New COVID-19 strain is infecting children in Singapore:
The government of Singapore has announced a new strain of the COVID-19 virus that is affecting children, thus shutting down schools. The government also issued a warning saying that the new virus variant first found in India was affecting children. Health Minister Ong Ye Kung also said that the B.1.617 strain is affecting the children more.

The third wave of COVID-19 is likely to affect children more severely. Health experts warn parents to take extra precautions and look out for post-COVID-19 complications in children for early intervention.
