COVID-19: Maharashtra government cancels exams for Classes 9 and 11, says this about Class 10, 12 Board Exams 2021

In a significant development, Maharashtra government on Wednesday (April 7) announced that all students in Class 9 and Class 11 will be passed without taking exams.

Earlier, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray-led government in Maharashtra had announced that all students from Class 1-8 will be passed without examinations. The state government, however, announced that the exams for Class 10, Class 12 Board Exams 2021 will be held offline and the datesheet for these exams will be released soon.

Maharashtra government has taken these decisions due to rising coronavirus COVID-19 cases in the state.

On Tuesday, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) supremo Raj Thackeray addressed a press conference and demanded that class 10 and class 12 students who are appearing for board exams should be promoted without examinations, “just like other students” amid rising coronavirus cases. “We have no clue about the mental trauma these kids are facing during this pandemic. Just like other students, class 10 and 122 students should also be promoted,” Thackeray asserted.

Talking about the new curbs imposed in Maharashtra to check the spread of COVID-19 infections, the MNS president said, “We discussed about various issues in a virtual meeting… The number of covid-19 cases in the state are increasing. I asked the Chief Minister why this COVID-19 surge was only seen in Maharashtra. The truth needs to be told to the people. As Maharashtra is an industrial state, the number of people coming from outside is huge.”
