COVID-19: Delhi Metro penalises 648 commuters for violating protocols

As India battles a second wave of COVID-19, authorities across the country have become stringent when it comes to following COVID-19 protocols and guidelines.

Delhi Metro’s Flying Squads on Thursday (April 8) penalised 648 commuters for not wearing a mask properly and violating social distancing norms.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has also urged the commuters to follow the protocols and politely counsel others to do the same.

"To ensure our travel guidelines are being followed, Delhi Metro's Flying Squads penalised 648 commuters on 8 April 2021 for not wearing a face mask properly & following social distancing. Let us all follow the protocols & politely counsel others to do the same. #CovidIsntOverYet," DMRC said in a tweet.

The DMRC on Wednesday had penalised 672 commuters for violating COVID-19 protocols.

Meanwhile, the national capital continues to show a steep rise in the number of COVID-19 cases. Delhi on Thursday (April 8) reported 7,437 fresh cases, the highest single day spike this year. 

Delhi is among 10 states besides Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Kerala and Punjab that have shown a steep rise in the daily COVID-19 cases accounting for 84.21 per cent of the record 1.26 lakh new infections on Thursday, according to the Union Health Ministry.

Earlier this week, the authorities ordered a city-wide night curfew till April 30 to to curb the spread of COVID-19 disease.
