NEW DELHI: The apex court on Wednesday ruled that in sensitive cases like marital disputes, the court should step in and make an effort to build bridges between estranged couples.

A bench, while hearing a case between one Jagraj Singh and his wife Dr Birpal, also restrained the parents of the couple from visiting them for a while, so that the couple could live together in peace.

“Marital matters must be considered by courts with humane angle and sensitivity. Delicate issues affecting conjugal relations have to be handled carefully and legal provisions should be construed and interpreted without being oblivious or unmindful of human weaknesses,” the court added.

It said that the courts are under obligation to make an attempt to bring litigating couples together as per the Hindu Marriage Act.
