SILIGURI: A teacher and his wife stabbed a man to death after inviting him to their hotel room in this North Bengal town in the early hours on Thursday.

Anil Kumar Verma, 42, and Nilu, 28, who hail from Kishanganj in Bihar, checked in at the hotel yesterday and invited Ashok Kumar Verma of Alipurduar in Jalpaiguri district to dinner on the same night, Inspector-in-Charge, Siliguri, Prabhat Chakraborty said.

When the hotel's night guard visited the couple's room accompanied by another staff-member after hearing screams, he saw the teacher stabbing his guest with a sharp-edged weapon while his wife kept a hold on him, the senior police officer said. Their victim did not survive his injuries.

When police arrived after being informed, the couple surrendered without resistance. Anil told police during interrogation that he killed Ashok for allegedly raping Nilu on May 11.

The two were produced in the Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate's court today and remanded in police custody for three days.
