Councillors turn sloganeers at Jaipur Municipal Corporation meet

In its last general board meeting of this year, the Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) passed several development projects amid sloganeering and arguments between Congress and BJP councillors. 

The meeting started with a 2-minute silence to pay homage to BJP councillor Ramesh Singh Chauhan, who died in June. Deputy mayor Manish Pareek chaired the meeting for the first time in four years as mayor Jyoti Khandelwal left the hall within half-an-hour of the meeting on account of poor health.

Councillors passed a project worth Rs483.83 crore pertaining to sewer-line repairs in Walled City area.  However, many councillors were against this project. They said that sewer-lines across the city should be changed as they remain clogged most of the time. At last, a consensus was built among the councillors that a survey of all sewer-lines would be done in one month.

Another plan regarding appointment of five veterinary doctors and 11 assistant doctors was also passed.

The councillors also agreed to set up a probe committee to look into the matter of cow deaths at Hingonia Goshala. Congress councillors raised objection that why chairman of goshala committee is heading this committee. Councillors Umardaraj and Ghulam Nabi almost clashed during the meeting. Slogans were also raised during the meeting in the favour of Rahul Gandhi and Narendra Modi by Congress and BJP councillors respectively.

BJP councillor Hanuman Sharma commented that on the occasion of 150th anniversary of Swami Vivekanand, the prince of Congress would be holding a rally. After hearing this, Congress councillors raised slogans in support of Rahul Gandhi. BJP councillors countered by raising slogans in favour of Narendra Modi. BJP councillors demanded that at Singhdwar, no common parking should be constructed and that area should be developed as a playground for children.
JMC CEO Jagroop Singh Yadav said the matter is sub-judice in the court and so JMC can’t take a decision on this matter.
