Fifteen Indians have died globally due of COVID-19, with a maximum in the US at six, followed by five in Italy. Two Indians have died in UAE, while one each in Iran and Egypt.

The process of repatriation of bodies has started and focus is one how to keep Indian community safe. The maximum number of Indians who have tested positive for novel coronavirus are in Iran's Qom city where a quarantine centre has been created by the Indian mission in Iran.

Globally, India has evacuated more than 2500 of its citizens from four countries -- China, Japan, Iran and Italy - over the COVID crisis.

Last week, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a video conference with Indian envoys across the world over the COVID crisis. In the meet that lasted for 75 minutes, Modi complimented heads of the missions for their "efforts to evacuate Indians stranded abroad" and "also to address other problems Indians might face abroad, including arranging shelter, where necessary and feasible" said a PMO release. 

In the meet, ten Heads of mission - in Beijing, Washington DC, Tehran, Rome, Berlin, Kathmandu, Abu Dhabi, Kabul, Male, and Seoul - spoke and gave their perspectives to the Prime Minister about the situation on the ground in the respective countries.

The US seems to have become the epicentre of the crisis, after Europe with nearly 1500 deaths in the country in the 24 hours period between Thursday and Friday. The number of people dead in the US due to COVID is over 7000.

The pandemic which started in China late last year has spread across the world has infected more than 1,100,000 around the world with close to 60,000 deaths globally.
