Navratri seems to have given an adrenaline rush to Amdavadi youths who think they are as good as Michael Schumacher and city roads as sleek as a Formula One racetrack. The Gujarat University police chased two cars on IIM road on Tuesday night, after they received a tip-off that the youths in the cars had taken to a speeding spree in the last few days.

At around 1:30 pm on Tuesday night, police personnel saw two cars speeding on the IIM road. The police immediately chased one of the cars, a Hyundai Ascent, which was being followed by a Maruti swift.

The police caught up with the Ascent near Goyal tower and saw four people sitting inside the car. However, all the four managed to escape from the spot. The police then chased the swift and managed to arrest one Mohit Sukhwani, while three others, who were also in the same car managed to flee.

A source said that the police had stepped up vigil after it received a complaint that a group of youngsters would race cars, trouble pedestrians and harass girls. The source also said that all the accused are from good families and frequently indulge in car racing on the Ahmedabad roads.

Meanwhile, in another incident, the Rakhial police arrested a motorcycle borne miscreant for attempting to rob a person of cash.
