Cop informer killed in Maninagar

A police informer was found murdered in Maninagar Railway Colony area early on Tuesday morning. Police believe that he was stabbed to death in some other area of the city and his body was dumped there. Police say the murder was committed to settle old scores and three people have been arrested in this connection.  

The victim was identified as Zakir Pathan alias Pappu, a resident of Ghanchi ni Chali in Rakhial. Morning walkers in the area saw his body lying in a pool of blood on the road and called the police control room. Soon, Maninagar police inspector (PI) DM Chauhan and officials of Detection of Crime Branch reached the spot with other police staff. They recovered driving licence from 32-year-old Pathan and established his identity. Police have also recovered the victim’s phone and wallet. 

“We suspect the murder was committed in Vejalpur and his body was brought to Maninagar Railway Colony in an auto-rickshaw as the marks of tyres near his body suggest. An old feud was behind the crime and we have arrested thee people in this connection,” PI Chauhan said.

However, sources claimed that a land dispute was at the heart of the murder. Cops said that Pathan was stabbed 17 times and killed. 

Police said that Pathan’s mobile phone had become inactive after Monday midnight. It was last tracked in Vatva and then in Rakhial.
Maninagar police said that Pathan, father of a girl, himself had a criminal past. Cases of loot and assault have been registered at Gomtipur, Amraiwadi and Rakhial police stations in the city.

Cases were filed against him with Godhra police also. This is the second murder in the last three days in Maninagar. On Sunday night, Raju Bhatt was also stabbed to death in Dakshini Society after a tiff over stationing a laari on the road.

Maninagar police have registered a case of murder and further investigation is on.
