And so they reached a compromise. They allowed the conman to walk away if he made good their losses.

On Thursday evening, the group brought Ramesh Motwani, 43, to Satellite police station for allegedly stealing foreign currency. They said that Motwani had allegedly duped them of $600 two years back. Motwani was caught in a trap laid by the group on Thursday.

"The police were demanding evidence against Motwani. During inquiry, he agreed to repay the entire amount that he had stolen from us," said Vaibhav Shah, who filed an application in the case.Police officials said that the two parties arrived at a compromise as the group had no evidence against Motwani.  He agreed to return the amount in return for his freedom.

It should be noted that the conman had earlier been arrested once by the Vastrapur police in January this year on charges of stealing a laptop.
