Party workers organised programs at various places, including Amethi, Jais, Musafirkhana and Tilot, to celebrate Mr Gandhi's elevation. They took out victory march, danced on streets and distributed ‘ladoos’.

After a meeting at the party Central Office in Gauriganj, party workers burst firecrackers to celebrate the occasion.

“We have been waiting for years for Rahul to take over the party command. Today our long cherished wish has been fulfilled. We are eagerly awaiting his visit to Amethi after taking the charge,” said party Amethi Spokesperson Anil Singh.

“Rahul will write a new history of the Congress. We are sure that he will make the party win the 2019 Lok Sabha polls to come back to the power,” reacted former MLA Radheyshyam Dhobi.

The Amethi Congress President Yogendra Mishra said that Rahul has already spelled his magic in Gujarat.

“After becoming AICC President, he will change the course of the Indian politics,” he said.
