Congress slams Govt on Pak ceasefire violations

The Congress on Friday attacked the Narendra Modi-led NDA government, citing data that ceasefire violations by Pakistan have increased 500 per cent in the past 44 months and raising concern about the nation's security scenario.

"National security is being endangered by the political actions of the Modi government. National security strategy cannot be centered on PM's personal propaganda machinery; instead it should be centered around our Armed Forces and national interests," a statement from the Congress party on Friday said.

The Congress then blamed the Modi government for worsening the nation's security, comparing it to the last 44 months of the UPA tenure.

The Congress went on to provide numbers for the increase in causalities during the Modi government. According to the data cited, in the last 44 months of the UPA government, 131 soldiers lost their lives in terror-related incidents and ceasefire violations, but the number went up to 335 since May 26, 2014 when the NDA came to power.

"The Indian National Congress is deeply concerned by the present National security situation that has been compromised by the political inactions of the Modi government. Simple question is, when will the Modi government wake up from its deep slumber and act?"

The national party in Opposition then claimed that whilst our brave and valiant Armed Forces should be applauded and "we are extremely proud of their valour, lack of political direction, strategy and policy on the Modi government's part is harming India's interests. The disquiet at both ends of our borders can be gauged by the series of instances which is a serious cause of concern," the statement read.
