The party decided to move away from taking the traditional approach of organising public rallies against the current government's policies. Instead, it wants to hold talks with people at a personal level.
In the run-up to the Gujarat elections, the Congress has begun targeting the urban young voters, who have traditionally been the stronghold of the Bharatiya Janata Party. The party has mobilized its youth wing to connect with the young voters at micro level.
Sources in the Indian Youth Congress said that nearly 4.5 lakh of their members will go door to door in Gujarat for campaigning. The party decided to move away from taking the traditional approach of organising public rallies against the current government's policies. Instead, it wants to hold talks with people at a personal level. "We do not want to do hold any agitations, it is not going to serve any purpose for us. We will individually sit with people and tell them about things that are affecting them. People in Gujarat are unhappy with the government's economic policies like implementation of GST and demonetization. The business class has been hit in a major way because of these things. We can feel that they want a change," said Amrinder Singh Raja, national president of Indian Youth Congress. Even if the party is able to engage with 1000 people, the efforts will reach a large audience, said Raja.
Women from youth congress and members of Congress's student wing National Students Union of India will also be a part of the campaign. "Our main challenge is the 60 urban seats. We will mainly focus on these seats for our campaigning," said Singh.
