Actor-politician Shatrughan Sinha on Sunday said the BJP cannot be held responsible for the Babri Masjid demolition because the Congress was in power at the Centre when the time of the incident.

"The Congress led by prime minister Narsimha Rao was in power at the Centre, so how can the BJP be held responsible for the demolition of the disputed structure," said Sinha, who is here to canvass support for the BJP candidate from Kanpur.

Responding to a query on reports of Lalu Prasad calling Advani a "Pakistani refugee," Sinha said Advani is a respected citizen of India and nobody has the right to call him a refugee.

Shatrughan Sinha came here by road from Lucknow, as he was denied permission to land at Kanpur on Saturday since the airport does not have night landing facility.

"Maybe the UP government did not want me to come to Kanpur, but no matter what happens I will continue to campaign for BJP," he said.
