Congress remembers PV Narasimha Rao finally, but incorrectly

The Congress's Twitter account handlers on Sunday made a serious faux pas when intending to tweet a commemorative tweet on former prime minister Narasimha's death anniversary, they instead ended up saying it was his birth anniversary.

The tweet, which was soon taken down soon after the error was realised, read, "P.V. Narasimha Rao, the 9th PM of India, dismantled the License Raj and oversaw the biggest economic reform the country has seen till date. His contributions to the nation shall always be remembered as we honour him today on his birth anniversary (sic)."

The former prime minister was born on June 28, 1921 and passed away on December 23, 2004. The Congress handle soon sent out a revised version of the tweet, "P.V. Narasimha Rao, the 9th PM of India, dismantled the License Raj and oversaw the biggest economic reform the country has seen till date. His contributions to the nation shall always be remembered."

The former PM, credited for steering the country through the liberalisation era by opening the economy to foreign investments, has been a political pariah of sorts within the party, reportedly due to differences with former party president Sonia Gandhi.

In this year's plenary, however, when the party's central working committee met, the Congress passed resolutions acknowledging his contributions to the party and the economy.

The former PM was born on June 28, 1921 and passed away on December 23, 2004. The tweet incorrectly got the two dates mixed-up.
