Congress raises slogans, pastes posters to welcome Bhuria junior

Congress workers welcomed the youngest executive council (EC) member of Devi Ahilya Vishwa Vidyalaya (DAVV) Dr Vikrant Bhuria by pasting his posters inside the university campus and the administrative building on Wednesday.

Dr Bhuria (29) who is the son of Congress state president Kantilal Bhuria, attended his first EC meeting at DAVV and was welcomed with a grand cracker show.

Party workers raised slogans in his praise, despite of the state government's rule of not using university campuses for promotional activities.

"They (Congress workers) were excited to see a representative from Congress as the EC member and they made these arrangements to express their gratitude towards the university for appointing me," Dr Bhuria said.

Dr Bhuria is the governor's nominee for the post which was vacated by Umesh Gadkar.

Gadkar was removed from the post on the allegations of faulty appointment over the seat which was reserved for a SC candidate while he did not belong to this category.

Sources claimed that Gadkar had furnished false documents for becoming DAVV's EC member.

Later Dr Bhuria was replaced him on the recommendation of Governor Ram Naresh Yadav.

Bhuria's supporters pasted large hoardings outside the campus and small posters at the entrance, on the main wall and even the staircase. However, no objection was taken from the university's end.

He said that his appointment was a stepping stone for youth representation in the policy making of the university.

"It feels great to become a policy maker for the institute where I have spent almost a decade as a student," he said.

DAVV to start regional centers
The executive council of DAVV decided to start its regional centers in Dhar, Jhabua, Khandwa and other regions in its affiliated colleges so that students and college management can easily access information about the administrative and academic activities of the university on Wednesday.

Although the issue was not included in the scheduled agenda for the September meeting of the council, it was suddenly taken up considering demands of students which they have made in previous weeks and months through protesting.

"Students and management of colleges affiliated to DAVV which are located far off will be able to easily seek information from these regional centers," said EC member Dr Vikrant Bhuria.

A committee comprising four EC members was constituted to this effect including Dr Sunanda Jain, Dr Narendra Dhakad and others.
