"I urge you to immediately seek the intervention of the Union government and ensure that the incident of killings of Dalits in the villages of Sonai and Kharda and also Javakhed are transferred to the CBI for transparent and impartial enquiry," Bhalchandra Mungekar said in a memorandum to the President.

The former member of the Planning Commission said the Javakhed killings was not an isolated incident as there had been a series of crimes against the Schedule Castes in Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra.

He told the President that anger among the Dalit community is brewing and may "explode" one day.
