Raking up a controversy, Congress MP from Gonda, Beni Prasad Verma, has announced his support for the BSP candidate from here in the forthcoming Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council elections.     Making the announcement last night, Verma also attacked his party colleague and local MP PL Punia and said supporting him in the Lok Sabha polls was a big mistake."I made a big mistake by supporting Punia in the Lok Sabha polls for which I apologise to the electorate in Barabanki," he told reporters here.     He said it was unfortunate that a person having a tainted image was elected as MP from Barabanki.    "I will support Hargobind Singh of BSP in the council elections in Barabanki, because he supported me in the Lok Sabha polls and I have attachment for him. Moreover, Congress is not contesting on this seat" Verma said, adding that party general secretary Digvijay Singh was aware of his decision.     The Congress MP, however, clarified that he was supporting the candidate and not BSP.     He claimed that Hargobind contacted him several times seeking ticket from the Congress.     The Congress leader said he could have managed ticket for his son, but decided otherwise, as he did not believed in caste politics.
