That evening and on Tuesday the debate was on show. On TV, BJP BJP panelists sounded suitably embarrassed while Congress members turned up their noses and with a certain disdain said that this (the BJP) was a party of dancers, a pejorative term when uttered in Hindi.

The woman/dancer in question, Swaraj, called a press briefing at 7.30pm at her residence.

Flanked by party colleagues, Ravi Shankar Prasad and Shah Nawaz Husain, she said party workers sang a patriotic song from a Dilip Kumar-Vyjanathimala starrer made by BR Chopra in 1957- a Mohd, Rafi number “Yeh desh hai veer jawaanon ka, mastaanon ka…”.

Sushma said when party workers sang and danced she too joined them in a gesture of camaraderie.

She said that she was surprised that the Congress should object to anyone dancing to a patriotic song, saying, “I will dance to a patriotic song till the last breath of my life.”

She also said that this would not have offended the spirit of Bapu.
