The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has alleged that the Congress is hatching a conspiracy to eliminate Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati by withdrawing her National Security Guard (NSG)’s Black Cat commandos.

The media had reported on Wednesday that commandos assigned to Mayawati were to be withdrawn after a review of threat perception by the Union home ministry.

Other leaders likely to lose  NSG cover are former Uttar Pradesh CM Mulayam Singh Yadav, former Bihar CM Lalu Yadav, and BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi.
Mayawati has been accorded “Z plus” security, which is the highest category of protection, with additional NSG cover.

“The government is creating circumstances which may lead to her (Mayawati) murder... this is clearly a Congress conspiracy,” BSP general secretary Satish Chandra Mishra said in a statement released here.  “The Congress sees Mayawati as a hurdle in its political gameplan due to the BSP’s growing popularity. So,  it is planning to get her murdered by compromising her security,” he said.

Mishra has written to president Pratibha Patil, prime minister Manmohan Singh, home minister P Chidambaram and Congress president Sonia Gandhi in this regard. Mishra said NSG cover  was being provided “even to a CM who is seen as a threat to public order in the US”, hinting at Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi.

“The Centre has no qualms in giving NSG cover to a leader who incites communal disharmony,” he said in an oblique reference to former BJP leader Kalyan Singh.
“Mayawati is on the hit list of international terrorist outfits and anti-national elements... she also faces threat from criminals against whom the UP government has taken strict action,” he said.
