The All India Congress Committee (AICC) has invited nominations for the annual Rajiv Gandhi National Sadbhavana Award (RGNSA).

The award, instituted in memory of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, is given for outstanding contribution to promote peace, communal harmony and fight against terrorism and violence.

The last date for receiving nominations for the award is July 7, according to a statement from the AICC.

The award, given on former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi's birth anniversary on August 20, carries a citation and Rs 10 lakh in cash to be given either to persons or institutions.

The prescribed proforma is available at the AICC Trust Office at the AICC headquarters, said Chairman of the RGNSA Advisory Committee and former MP Karan Singh."The 24th award for 2016 and 2017 would be in recognition of outstanding contribution to the cause of National Sadbhavana (harmony) either by distinguished individuals or associations in the years and two years immediately preceding it," said Motilal Vora, Member-Secretary, RGNSA Advisory Committee.

Among the recipients of the award are Mother Teresa, Ustad Bismillah Khan, Mohd. Yunus, Lata Mangeshkar, Sunil Dutt, J N Kaul, Dilip Kumar, K R Narayanan and Ustad Amjad Ali Khan.
