Congress hopeful despite CPM’s ‘no’ to poll alliance

Notwithstanding CPM defeating Yechury’s proposal to align with the Congress in coming polls, the Congress is still hopeful of forging unity with the opposition parties.

Responding to a direct question on the decision taken by the CPM’s central committee, Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi said, “it is not necessary for us to respond to the internal workings of a party as it is at a stage when they themselves have not taken a final decision which they will take.”

During its central committee meeting at Kolkata on Sunday, the CPM had voted 55-31 in favour of party hardliner Prakash Karat’s line to have no understanding with the Congress Unnerved of the development, Singhvi said, it is “highly premature” to speculate on alliances.

Clearly indicating that he is not going to stop his efforts of aligning with  the Congress Yechury also had said that the“final authority will be the Party Congress and Let’s go to the Party Congress, the Party Congress will take the final call.”

“It is not a subject which I want to hypothesize or speculate and last but not the least certainly issue based support. Issue based support in every sphere in and outside the Parliament is something which we have seen actively going on,” he said.
