"Party leaders have been demanding to make Rahul Gandhi the President of the Congress party since long. But I think this decision should rest with the party high command. The decision on who should take what position in the party should rest with Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi," he said.

Speaking on the expulsion of senior party leader and former union minister Ramlal Rahi for allegedly supporting Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Swachch Bharat Abhiyan', Shukla said Rahi might have been expelled for other reasons.

"Several Congress leaders participated in Modi's 'Clean India campaign' but they have not been expelled. So if Rahi has been expelled from the party, it might have been for other reasons," Shukla said.
