Opposition parties joined ranks on Thursday in accusing the Narendra Modi government of letting the country's "biggest bank loot scam" accused Nirav Modi slip through. The government was quick to rebut, with Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad alleging that the Congress was engaged in "photo politics".
"Guide to Looting India by Nirav MODI 1. Hug PM Modi 2. Be seen with him in DAVOS Use that clout to: A. Steal 12,000Cr B. Slip out of the country like Mallya, while the Govt looks the other way," tweeted Congress president Rahul Gandhi.
Prasad asserted that no one involved in the fraud, "irrespective of stature", would be spared. He clarified that Nirav Modi was not part of the delegation to Davos led by Modi and had reached there on his own. "I warn the Congress to stop this photo politics otherwise we too have a lot of good and cosy pics of Congress leaders with Mehul Choksi, but we don't stoop to that level," Prasad said.
