NEW DELHI: The Congress on Wednesday strongly condemned the attack on the house of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi's daughter in Bangalore and asked the Karnataka government to provide security to Tamils living in the state.

"We strongly condemn the attack allegedly carried out by certain sections of the VHP on the residence of the daughter of the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister. Such fascist, authoritarian tactics should be put down with a strong hand," Congress spokesperson Jayanti Natarajan told here.

She said the attack was especially condemnable as it was against a person who is not even in politics.

"The Government of Karnataka should provide security to all Tamils in the state to prevent such attacks in the future," Natarajan said.

The residence of Karunanidhi's daughter Tamizh Selvi at J P Nagar in the Karnataka capital was attacked by a crowd on Tuesday night.

Selvi and her husband were not at home when the incident happened.
