The incident occurred last afternoon when some workers of the Congress allegedly burst crackers outside the house of Farin Hamid Shaikh who had contested the May 24 elections from ward number two, results for which were declared yesterday, police said.

Farin lost to Imran Wali Mohammad Khan and his wife Misaba Imran Khan.

As per the newly-introduced Prabhag system in the municipal elections, each ward returns three to five corporators instead of one or two as was the earlier practice.

As per the complaint lodged by Farin's father Hamid Shaikh, the Congress workers took out a procession and deliberately burst crackers outside their house, the official said.

When Shaikh objected, the activists abused him and hurled stones at his house, he said quoting the complaint.

Nizampura Police have registered a case under appropriate sections of the IPC, he said, adding that nobody is arrested so far.
