NEW DELHI: Taking a dig at former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's counsel to BJP to learn from the Leftists the art of getting re-elected, Congress on Monday asked the saffron party to take a cue from the Communists on how to function as a constructive opposition.

"The BJP is these days in the process of learning lessons. Vajpayee has advised the BJP to learn lessons from the Left Front on getting re-elected. They should also learn from the Left how to function as a constructive opposition," party spokesman Rajiv Shukla said.

He said the saffron party should also learn from the Left how to work in public interests instead of targeting Congress President Sonia Gandhi and engaging in personal agenda and bitterness.

"They should learn the art of being in the Opposition," he said.

Asked about the recent criticism of the UPA Government by the Left parties, he said the Congress considered even that as "constructive Opposition".
