Even as union labour minister Mallikarjun Kharge has said that former chief minister BS Yeddyurappa is welcome to join the party, the central leadership has made it clear that it is not interested.

The scam tainted former chief minister is presently uncomfortable in the Bharatiya Janata Party as its president Nitin Gadkari has ruled out his return to power unless the courts give him a clean chit. It is accepted by the BJP leadership that Yeddyurappa is a popular leader and is crucial to the electoral arithmetic, but with corruption being a major national issue, it cannot afford his rehabilitation.
