The scam tainted former chief minister is presently uncomfortable in the Bharatiya Janata Party as its president Nitin Gadkari has ruled out his return to power unless the courts give him a clean chit. It is accepted by the BJP leadership that Yeddyurappa is a popular leader and is crucial to the electoral arithmetic, but with corruption being a major national issue, it cannot afford his rehabilitation.
