Photographer and film student in Los Angeles, Arjun Kamath, has captured society’s response to LGBT couple's love, through a powerful fictional photo series entitled 'Coming Out'.

Kamath, who hails from Bengaluru, told dna he has always been interested in things that “have some relevance in the society we live in”.

Kamath revealed there were a variety of factors that inspired this piece. Adding, while there are “so many issues India is grappling with”, he decided to chose this particular issue because he connected with it.

“We (India) are a democracy, but at the same time I feel the idea of democracy is to express yourself freely and I felt the need to talk about it,” said  Kamath.

While Kamath feels "we as a nation want to be progressive", he says “what is holding us back is we care too much about how people perceive us”. He believes we should do what feels right to us in life.

'Coming Out' has become a viral sensation and has received positive reactions, particularly from those who struggle to reveal to people they are gay.

One of the messages Kamath received was from a bisexual woman from Sri lanka. Kamath shared her message on Facebook, which read:

“I love how you took the phrase 'Coming out of the closet' in its literal sense to show the world what follows after. The pictures, the story behind it was very captivating and it really managed to tug at my heartstrings."

"Me, being a bisexual and coming from Sri Lanka, a country that still frowns upon and discriminates anything different, this series really did hit home."

"I couldn't help but shed tears looking at the pictures at the end. It's what happens. And to know that some people, who are still so narrow-minded and don't understand that everyone has the right to love whoever they want, just breaks my heart."

Kamath says when the hype of 'Coming Out' dies down, it will be the satisfaction of knowing he was able to make a difference in someone's life, particularly those struggling to come out, that will stay with him.
