These utensils are being made through the Mati Kala Board under the Village Industries Department. Generally, while the use of things made of clay is becoming negligible in everyday life, in Chhattisgarh, efforts are being made to promote pottery items and potters. The Mati Kala Board is manufacturing dinner sets, cup sets and cooking utensils which are made by baking the soil which takes two to three days. These clay pots are washable and durable, and their price is also pocket-friendly. Dinner sets, water bottles and cup sets are all in the range of 500–1000 rupees.

These items are being made in a village in Mahasamund district by men and women of a self-help group which specializes in the art of pottery.

Village Industries Minister Guru Rudra Kumar said that the purpose of the department is not only to promote environmental protection through this experiment but also to provide employment to the potters in the village. "It started sometime back, so very few people are aware of this initiative. Soon, its sale will be started online alongside the open market so that people can also buy these utensils," added Kumar.

Pottery ornaments are also made in the state and there is a good demand for these among women here. If the proposal of the Village Industries Department is agreed, Chhattisgarh can boast of being a state where the smell of soil spreads in VIP culture.
