Brijendra Pal Singh, the director and producer of popular television series CID has been appointed as the new chairman of the iconic Film and Television Institute of India (FTII). Singh will be succeeding veteran actor Anupam Kher who resigned from the said post citing commitments for 'international assignment'.

Before his appointment as FTII Chairman, Singh was the Vice-Chairman of FTII. "Ministry of Information and Broadcasting today nominated Brijendra Pal Singh as the new president of FTII society and Chairman of the Governing Council," the FTII administration said in a statement issued after Singh's appointment on Thursday.

Singh is an alumnus of 1970-73 batch of the same institute. He specialised in film cinematography. Singh is known for the popular Hindi television series CID. As the producer and director of CID, which has completed 21 years, he has received the honour of being named in the Limca Book of Records for taking a 111-minute-long uncut shot.

As he will be succeeding Kher, Singh will remain the chairman for the remaining period of Kher's tenure.
