The pastor and his wife just about managed to escape in the nick of time, but the extent of their injury is unclear. According to Chhattisgarh Christian Association president Arun Pannalal, police is trying to put a lid on this incident. He said that in a place like Tokapal, everyone knows each other and hence registering a case against unidentified people indicates that the cops are trying to protect the accused.

According to the FIR, the miscreants destroyed electronic equipment in the church, and set afire religious scriptures. The well-armed culprits also tried to burn down the pastor's house. There has been a spate of such incidents in the last few years, including the one at Kachna near Raipur in March, where nine people were arrested for attacking a church.
