BHUBANESWAR: Notwithstanding the Orissa government's claim to have successfully checked the spread of cholera, 31 more people were reported dead on Wednesday taking the death toll to 115.

The fresh deaths were reported from Koraput, Kalahandi and Rayagada districts, sources said.

Of the total deaths in the past 25 days, Rayagada accounted for 64 casualties, the sources added.

While 50 people succumbed to cholera and diarrhoea in Kashipur block of Rayagada, 14 others died in neighbouring Kolnara block of the district, they added.

Seventeen people died of cholera at Thuamul Rampur block of neighbouring Kalahandi district, sources at the health department control room said.
