On Monday, a six-year-old girl was found dead in a farm well Kalpattu village, in Kancheepuram near Chennai.

The Deccan Chronicle reports that Divya (6), a class I student in a local school, went missing in the night. When her parents - Sathish Kumar and Devaki - woke up at 1:30 am to drink water they realised she was missing.

They immediately called the neighbours and went looking for the missing child. The report adds that her body was found at the farm well about 500 m from the home.

The daily adds that preliminary investigations suggest that the girl was murdered. The well she was found in was 31 feet deep and had more than six feet of water. No external injuries were reportedly found on the body and the cops have stated that they would know whether she was sexually assaulted only after the post-mortem examination on Tuesday.
