Chennai North Lok Sabha Constituency: Candidates for 2019 LS poll, past results, all updates

The key contest in Chennai North in 2019 is going to be held between DMK’s Dr Kalanidhi Veeraswam and DMDK’s Alagaapuram R Mohanraj. The latter has entered into an alliance with DMK's arch rival AIADMK.

Chennai North Lok Sabha Constituency 2019: Chennai North parliamentary constituency will go to polls on April 18, which is the second phase of Lok Sabha election 2019. The polling in all the 39 Lok Sabha seats in Tamil Nadu will be held in the second phase. The key contest in Chennai North in 2019 is going to be held between DMK’s Dr Kalanidhi Veeraswam and DMDK’s Alagaapuram R Mohanraj. The latter has entered into an alliance with DMK's arch rival AIADMK. 

Both AIADMK and DMK have aligned with a number of parties for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. 

The AIADMK has entered into an alliance with BJP, PMK, DMDK, Tamil Maanila Congress, Puthia Tamizagam, Puthia Needhi Katchi and NR Congress. While the DMK has aligned with Congress, CPI(M), CPI, MDMK, VCK, IUML, KMDK and IJK.  

Since both AIADMK and DMK have aligned with a number of parties for the upcoming elections, the two will directly compete against each other in only 8 seats.

BSP’s S Robert Gnana Sekar is also in fray. 

The district has a average literacy rate of 93.57%.

Chennai North Lok Sabha results in 2014, 2009 and 2004 

2014: TG Venkatesh Babu of the AIADMK received 406704 votes and he defeated R Girirajan of the DMK who got 30700 votes. 

2009: TKS Elangovan of the DMK received 281055 votes. He defeated CPI’s D Pandian who got 26190 votes. 

2004: C Kuppusami of the DMK received 570122 votes. He defeated Sukumar Nambiar of the BJP who got 31658 votes. 

Lok Sabha elections in all the 39 constituencies in Tamil Nadu will take place on April 18.

Parliamentary elections 2019 are taking place in 7 phases. The first phase voting has already taken place which was held on April 11. The remaining phases will go to polls on April 18, April 23, April 29, May 6, May 12 and May 19. Counting of votes will be held on May 23.
