Chennai: Firemen rescue over 5000 people in waterlogged areas

The heavy rains in Chennai have severely affected the lives of people whose homes were flooded with water. Fire and rescue services personnel in the city, however, have been working round-the-clock helping these people get to dry areas and removing debris.
A report in Deccan Chronicle states that relief teams were getting 300 distress calls a day. As of Tuesday, nearly 5,000 people were rescued by fire services, including more than 350 people living in Perungalathur. On Tuesday, some patients were also rescued from Global Hospitals in Sholinganallur.
Vijay Shekhar, Joint Director, Fire & Rescue Services, told the daily that a plan had been chalked out and their men had been sent to 28 places in the city to rescue people who were stranded.
The areas that were inundated with water where rescue personnel had been dispatched included Chromepet, Tambaram, TTC Nagar, Kishkinda Nagar, Kotturpuram, Villivakkam and SIDCO Nagar.
