Chargesheet filed in Amarnath attack case

Six months after militants killed eight Amarnath yatris and injured 20, Jammu and Kashmir police filed a chargesheet against eight accused and Lashkar-e-Toiba militant outfit in the Anantnag sessions court and Chief Judicial Magistrate (Juvenile Court) Anantnag of south Kashmir.

The 1,500-page chargesheet was filed after obtaining sanction from the government under section 45 Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act  in the instant case.

Eight yatris were killed and 20 injured when militants led by slain Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) commander Abu Ismail attacked an Amarnath yatra bus on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway at Botengoo in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on July 10 last year.

Soon after the incident, police had registered a case under sections 302, 307, 326, 427 Ranbir Penal Code (RPC), 7/27 Arms Act, 16, 18, 20 Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

Police said a special investigation team led by Superintendent of Police Tahir Ashraf Bhatti was formed to carry out the investigation

“During the course of investigation, it was established that Pakistan-based LeT terrorists were involved in the attack. Further, on the basis of evidences collected during the course of investigation, complicity of 11 people was established, out of whom four persons including one juvenile were arrested,” said a police spokesman.

“The main accused in the instant case Abu Ismail,a Pakistani National, was killed in an encounter at Arigam, Nowgam, Srinagar on September 14, 2017.

3 ACCUSED ON RUN

  • Three accused including Khalid Muzafar Dar of Rehpora Khudwani, Tanveer Ahmad Dar of Rehpora Khudwani and Sarjeel Ahmad Shiekh of Khudwani are absconding in the case.
