Worsening human tragedy due to unprecedented floods in Tamil Nadu found strong resonance in the national capital on Wednesday with Centre reviewing it at several levels and both the houses of parliament showing rare camaraderie to speak in unison to provide all possible help to the affected.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took stock of the situation along with his senior cabinet colleagues and spoke to Tami Nadu chief minister Jayalalithaa offering all possible help.

The National Crisis Management Committee (NCMC) met early in the day under the chairmanship of cabinet secretary P K Sinha to review the situation in detail that according to Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast can deteriorate further as rains are expected to lash Chennai and surrounding areas for the next four days.

The floods have also affected several parts of Andhra Pradesh and Puducherry and can be a bigger disaster than expected earlier, said an official of the national disaster management authority (NDMA) .
