‘Centre misleading people on gas allocation’

The state government on Thursday accused the Congress-led UPA government of misleading people with false information on domestic gas allocation to the state.

“The central government has released advertisements which say that Gujarat is being allocated 34 million standard cubic metre (scm) of domestic gas per day. However, the actual allocation is sharply lower at only 23.1 million scm,” claimed energy minister Saurabh Patel.

Patel further said that the gas allocated to Gujarat includes the allocation made to fertiliser and power generation units.

“The Centre has also allocated gas to Reliance and Essar for their refinery and steel plants respectively, but not a unit is allocated for domestic and CNG segments in the state,” he said.

The minister pointed out that the Centre has also failed to comply with the Gujarat high court order asking it to provide domestic gas to Gujarat for domestic and CNG segment at the same price as New Delhi and Mumbai.
