A day before the much-publicised inaugural run of the state-of-the-art Tejas Express, Central Railway (CR) General Manager DK Sharma, who carried out an inspection on Sunday, instructed that all the staff on board the train should be well-trained about the features of the train. Sharma also asked for the content on the train's infotainment system, which is 'Taiwan heavy' at present, to be changed to something more local in nature.
It was while browsing through the entertainment screens provided for every passenger on Sunday that the GM noticed that most of the videos were related to Taiwan, with mentions of 'Beautiful Taiwan' and 'Travelling in Taiwan'.
"The video should instead be about how beautiful Konkan and Maharashtra is and talk about the culture of Maharashtra and Konkan, and even show destinations in India rather than in Taiwan," Sharma instructed the staff, who told him that they would immediately begin changing the content.
A senior official from CR said that Sharma also insisted that since Tejas has several new features, which were being introduced in trains for the first time, every single staff on board should be well-versed with the same to make sure that no commuter faces any difficulty. "The staff were also instructed to be polite and well-mannered with the passengers," the official said.
The commuters on board the train will also have an elaborate menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner, said an official from IRCTC, which will be providing the catering services in the train.
"Since the train will be travelling through Konkan, we are trying to have a few signature Konkani dishes in both non-vegetarian as well as vegetarian options. The catering staff will sport bright shirts to give a feel of Konkan and Goa," the official said.
However, while commuters seem to be happy about the features, their main grouse is about the fare system for the Tejas Express. While an AC chair car (CC) ticket between Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus and Karmali costs Rs 1,310 during the non-monsoon period, the cost for the same journey post June 10 is Rs 1,530.
