Pakistan Army provoked India for the second time in 24 hours when it killed an army soldier on the Line of Control (LoC) in Nowshera sector of Rajouri district in Jammu division.

Lieutenant Colonel Devender Anand, defence spokesman at Jammu, said Pakistan Army resorted to an unprovoked ceasefire violation on the Line of Control (LoC) at about 2.45 pm on Sunday. "Naik Gosavi Keshav Somgir was critically injured due to fire from across the border. He later succumbed to gunshot wounds", he said.

Hailing from Maharashtra's Srirampur village, 29-year-old Somgir is survived by his wife. "Naik Gosavi Keshav Somgir was a brave and sincere soldier. The nation will always remain indebted to him for the supreme sacrifice and devotion to duty," said Lieutenant Colonel Anand.

Indian Army immediately swung into action and retaliated in equal measure. "Indian Army has retaliated strongly and effectively to Pakistan Army posts," he said, adding that Somgir's sacrifice will not go in vain.

Naik Somgir is the second soldier to have fallen to Pakistani firing on LoC in the last 24 hours. Rifleman Varun Katal was killed on Saturday when a Pakistani sniper fired at him in Sunderbani. Hailing from Mawa village of Jammu, 21-year-old Kattal is survived by his parents.

Moreover, an Army porter was killed in a sniper fire from Pakistan in Akhnoor sector, while a BSF soldier was injured in Manjakote sector of Poonch on Friday. Pakistan also violated ceasefire in Tangdhar sector of north Kashmir's Kupwara district on Friday.
