The CBI sleuths reached Chhapri at around 11 am on Friday along with a state CID (crime) team. The CBI team was led by IGP, P Kandaswamy, and accompanied by DIG Amitabh Thakur and the investigating officer, Binay Kumar.

The officers were also accompanied by former investigating officer of the case, deputy superintendent of police, RK Patel, of the state CID (crime). Sources said the Patel showed the CBI team the exact spot and location where Prajapati was allegedly killed in a shoot-out.

CBI officials said a team from Central Forensic Science Laboratory, Delhi, will soon visit the place to reconstruct the sequence of events that had led to the encounter. This will then be used by the CBI to cross-check the account of events given by the Gujarat police team that carried out the encounter.

Tulsiram was gunned down in December 2006, a year after the encounter in which Sohrabuddin Sheikh and his wife were killed.
