CBI raids Bengaluru office of Amnesty International India over alleged violation of foreign funding act
The raid comes a year after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had carried out investigations into charges that the rights group had tried to bypass the FCRA by floating a commercial entity, Amnesty International India Pvt Ltd.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday raided the Amnesty International India's office Bengaluru in connection with violation of Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA).
The raid comes a year after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had carried out investigations into charges that the rights group had tried to bypass the FCRA by floating a commercial entity, Amnesty International India Pvt Ltd. The group had denied any ill-doings.
According to news agency ANI, Amnesty India has responded to the raid and said that "over the past year, a pattern of harassment has emerged every time Amnesty India stands up and speaks out against human rights violations in India".
