Members of the civil society should keep track of what is happening in the country and shouldn’t stay silent, said Chelameshwar, while speaking at city event organised by the All India Professional Congress.
Taking a jibe at the previous political party in power, retired Justice Jasti Chelameshwar said on Friday, it is also responsible for the issues plaguing the CBI today.
“The whole set up is based on a provision in the Delhi Special Police Establishment Act, and because there is no proper legal framework, its nature of power or duties are not clearly defined, it has become an instrument of those in power,” said Chelameshwar.
“Those in power, be it in any country, don’t find criticism pleasant and seek to subjugate the system. As far as CBI is concerned, it is not a divine organisation either,” said Chelameshwar, referring to the current crisis in the Central Bureau of Investigation.
He also stressed on the importance of civil society in these matters. Members of the civil society should keep track of what is happening in the country and shouldn’t stay silent, said Chelameshwar, while speaking at city event organised by the All India Professional Congress.
