The Central Bureau of Investigation on Tuesday took over the probe into the alleged murder of Sheena Bora and registered a case against deceased's mother Indrani Mukerjea and two others. Sanjay Khanna, Indrani's first husband, as well as driver Shyam Manohar are named as the other two accused.

The CBI filed the case under various sections of Indian Penal Code including criminal conspiracy, murder, abduction, destruction of evidence, causing hurt by giving poison and Arms Act. A status report on the case by state's director general of police (DGP) Sanjeev Dayal had concluded that the case is not limited to murder alone, but has financial motives which needed to be investigated.

A Mumbai court on Saturday had rejected an application moved by Sanjeev Khanna, former husband of Indrani Mukherjea and a co-accused in the Sheena Bora murder case, seeking release from jail.
