CBI has made a mockery of judicial system in Jaganmohan Reddy assets case: BJP

The Bharatiya Janata Party has charged the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) with making a mockery of the judicial system in YSR Jaganmohan Reddy disproportionate assets case under pressure from the Congress.

“The news of Jaganmohan Reddy being given bail after 16 months in jail raises a lot of questions about the way CBI has handled the case. After staggering the charge sheet and 16 months in custody, now we are told that on eight of the ten cases, CBI has said it did not find any material,” BJP spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman told media here.

Jagan Reddy's bail case appears to be very curious. Counts on which he has been charge sheeted have come down. If you kept him for 16 days, 16 months or 16 years, now, releasing him without even any protest from the prosecution raises many questions,” she added.

“The Congress has made a mockery of the entire issue,” she added.

On Monday, Reddy was granted bail 16 months after he was arrested.

Reddy, who was arrested on May 27 last year by the CBI on corruption charges, was under judicial remand and lodged at the Chanchalguda Central Prison in Hyderabad.

The CBI has accused Reddy of getting huge investments from various individuals and firms into his businesses as quid pro quo for the favours granted by the Andhra Pradesh Government that was headed by his father and former chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy before his death in a helicopter crash in September 2009.
