The agency has been trying to extradite Niels Holck, also known as Kim Davy, since he was traced in Denmark in 2002 even though there is no treaty between the two countries. According to initial reports the extradition plea was turned down on grounds of jail conditions and human rights issue.

“We represented our plea to extradite him very strongly. We did our best to convince the court that Davy’s human rights will be maintained and assured them about treatment in our jail,” officials said.

“Once the judgmnt is received CBI will request the ministry of justice, government of Denmark through Indian external affairs ministry to appeal against the verdict in the Supreme Court of Denmark,” a CBI statement said.

Reacting to the verdict, Davy said: “I feel somewhat empty and don’t really know what to think yet.” —Inputs from agencies
