A city court on Tuesday allowed CBI to interrogate West Bengal Transport minister Madan Mitra, in custody in connection with the Saradha chit fund scam, at the state-run SSKM Hospital where he is admitted for the past few months. The Alipore District and Sessions Court directed that CBI, which is investigating the scam on a Supreme Court directive, can interrogate Mitra within one week from today.

CBI had moved an application before the court seeking permission to interrogate the minister at the hospital claiming that it was imperative to do so in order to further the investigation into the scam Mitra was arrested by CBI in December, 2014.

His bail prayers have been rejected by the district court on a few occasions. His latest bail prayer before the Calcutta High Court was rejected on August 6.
