The last date for Common Admission Test or CAT 2018 has been extended. The IIM officials have extended the last day for the submission of the CAT 2018 Application Form. This year, IIM Calcutta will be conducting the CAT 2018. Earlier, the last date to submit the CAT 2018 Online Application was September 19, which has now been extended to September 26, 2018 (05:00 PM). The CAT exam is scheduled to be conducted on November 25, 2018.

An IIM (Calcutta) statement said CAT 2018 will be conducted in two sessions at test centres spread across 147 cities. The last date for registrations was September 19. Check out full details on iimcat.ac.in. Candidates will be given the option to select four test cities in order of preference, and the cities and centres will be assigned after September 19, Convenor-CAT 2018, Prof Sumanta Basu was quoted as saying in the statement.

The authorities will do their best to assign candidates their first-preferred city, it said. "In case that is not possible, the candidates will be assigned a city following their given order of preference. And in the rare case that a candidate is not allotted any of the preferred cities, he/she will be allotted an alternative city," Basu said.

However, the examinees will not be able to select the session, as it will be assigned randomly. After submission of applications, candidates will be allowed to download their admit card from October 24 onwards, till the date of the test. There will be three sections - Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension, Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning, and Quantitative Ability, the statement said. A tutorial to understand the format of the test will be available on the CAT website from October 17. 

Indian Institutes of Management (IIM)

IIMs are considered India’s premier national institutes providing quality education in management and research. IIMs primarily offer postgraduate, doctoral and executive education programmes. The flagship programme of IIM is the two-year postgraduate diploma (PGDM) popularly known as Master of Business Administration (MBA). These two-year programmes are residential in nature. The Fellow Programme in Management (FPM) is a fulltime doctoral level programme in management and research equivalent to PhD degree. The Executive Post Graduate programmes are targeted at working professionals.

Admission to the two year PGDM programmes in IIMs are on merit, based on a rigorous selection process comprising of Personal Interview, Written Ability Test / Group Discussions, and scores in the Common Admission Test which is commonly known as CAT. CAT is a management aptitude test conducted by the IIMs primarily to evaluate and shortlist candidates for the postgraduate programme. It is a computer-based exam available for eager and eligible candidates to register and take once a year.

As per Government of India norms, IIMs reserve 15% seats for SC candidates, 7.5% seats for ST candidates and 27% seats for NC-OBC candidates. 5% seats are also reserved for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities. IIMs also provide scholarships to deserving students who need financial support.

The Indian Institutes of Management are public establishments with autonomous control over its day to today operations and curriculum. Today, there are 20 IIMs as public autonomous institutes in India.
