A case of alleged 'love jihad' has been reported in Rajasthan's Jaipur as a woman has claimed that she was forced to convert to Islam just before her wedding. A case has been registered in Jaipur's Malviya Nagar police station on magistrate's order and the police has begun its investigation.

The woman, identified as Divya Moolchandani, claimed that she met a man named Ishant through Facebook two years ago and the two decided to get married. Just before the wedding, she came to know that the man was a Muslim whose name was Irshad Ali, she said.

She was forced to convert to Islam and change her name to Rabiya Begum before the wedding, the woman claimed.

After spending more than a year with her husband, she moved to court alleging that the man is now threatening her life.

The man has denied the charges and has claimed that she always knew about his religious identity and was not forced to convert.

The documents accessed by Zee Media show that the woman had filed an affidavit to change her name from Divya Moolchandani to Rabiya Begum in Gazette notification. The affidavit, in which she identified her religion as Islam, states that she changed her changed her religion and married Irshad Ali.

She said in the affidavit that she changed her religion on December 31, 2016 to marry Irshad Ali. The affidavit is dated February 13, 2017 and signed by the woman as Rabiya.

The Nikahnama of their marriage has also surfaced where the bride's name is written as Rabiya while in father's column, it is written Jagat Rai.

The police has registered a case after the court's direction and has begun its probe.

While the police will bring to light the facts after its investigation, the case may be politically highlighted in electorally charged Rajasthan where Assembly elections are due to be held later this year.
